Hurricane season begins June 1st and goes through November 30th. Hopefully you’ve prepared for it by gathering your supplies and planning an emergency evacuation route should it become necessary. Stay safe during the storm by following these guidelines:
- If you are told to evacuate, take your supplies and go to a shelter, friend’s or family’s home.
- If you remain in your home, stay in a safe room, away from windows or skylights
- Use the phone for emergencies only
- Use battery powered lanterns or flashlights instead of candles
- Monitor the weather reports on TV or radio
- Keep your hurricane supplies readily accessible
- Stay inside when the eye moves over your area
After the storm:
- Wait until the storm has passed completely before going outside
- Avoid downed power lines and report them
- Use bottled water until tap water is reported to be safe
- Don’t walk or drive through flooded streets
- Check on your neighbors to make sure they’re safe
- Check for any damages to your property and contact your insurance agent to report any claim
