Can you believe it’s already March? Soon enough, Spring will be around the corner. But here in South Florida, the weather is always great no matter what time of the year. Want to know one of our favorite things to do when it’s sunny outside? Boating! It’s only appropriate being that we live in the “Yachting Capitol of the World.”
Here are four tips that can potentially reduce your boating insurance rates:
- Navigational Territory: When and where you cruise can affect your premium. Because of the risk associated with coastal waters (i.e. hurricanes and tropical storms) rates are typically more expensive for coastal vessels, as opposed to those that only sail in inland lakes and rivers.
- Take a Boater Safety Course: Boat owners who pass a boating safety course demonstrate they have proficient knowledge about safety on the water. Be sure to verify with your carrier which courses can earn you a discount and to also see which certifications are available in your area.
- Incorporate Safety Features on your Vessel: You know how you can upgrade the safety features for your vehicle and get a reduction on your auto policy? The same goes for you boating insurance. Check to see what safety features your boat comes equipped with and let your insurance agent know about them. Research to see if there are small, inexpensive ways you can upgrade to that’ll save money on your premium.
- Safe Boating Record: Proving your ability to safely operate your vessel through a clean driving record (with no recent violations) usually increases your chances of receiving a discount.
